About
Cosnim is a fully integrated data distribution and protection platform. It simultaneously provides continuous backups, disaster recovery, data integrity certification and distributed/edge data sharing in a single, fully integrated software package.
Products
Depending on your license, Cosnim may operate under one of three product names:
Cosnim Backup™
Protects existing data against accidental erasure, ransomware attacks and disasters. It operates as a hybrid backup, versioning, and snapshot system, taking continuous copies of existing data as it is altered. Contrary to traditional backup solutions, all backed-up data is instantly accessible from any location as live storage, without restores or recovery.
Cosnim Vault™
Safeguards critical information against all forms of tampering. It is ideal for legal holds, secure logging and financial information preservation, where data integrity and preservation are paramount. It provides full historical recording, inviolable audits and continuous digital signatures. Cosnim Vault can operate as a live filesystem to store new data or as a continuous backup and protection system for existing data.
Cosnim Nexus™
Provides live data distribution and sharing in private, corporate, cloud, and edge computing environments. It allows users and servers to freely share and distribute information between themselves, independently of their platform or location. Cosnim Nexus incorporates many of the capabilities of Cosnim Backup and Vault to protect the data’s integrity.
Unified Platform
Whether using Cosnim Backup, Vault or Nexus, all products run under the same core engine that drives the unified platform. This allows you to change products and switch use cases without ever losing any historical or auditing information. For example, you can freely run Cosnim Nexus on any storage initially created with Cosnim Backup or Vault, and vice-versa, without any conversion and without losing any information.
Concepts
Before configuring or using Cosnim for the first time, it’s helpful to understand a few concepts.
Continuum
All your data in Cosnim is managed in a continuum. A continuum is comprised of various storage hubs such as local disks and cloud storage services, and capsules, which are small data containers that Cosnim creates and stores on storage hubs to organize your data. You can have as many continuums as you like, but each continuum remains independent.
Capsules
Capsules are small, physical data containers that contain absolutely everything about your data, including filesystems, files, directories, data fragments, metadata, and all other information such as Time-Travel data and other control information needed by Cosnim to organize the continuum as a whole. Capsules are fully sealed, 100% encrypted, platform-independent containers which are stored in the appropriate form for a given storage hub, such as objects, files, database records, or any other type of storage unit. Capsules are fully mobile and can freely move from one hub or location to another without conversion or extra processing.
When working with Cosnim, you won’t usually deal directly with capsules, but you will see them in physical storage if you ever peek into them, and you’ll need to be aware of them when building high-resiliency continuums.
Serverless
Cosnim is essentially serverless. Everything is managed directly by the Cosnim software you run on your local computer or server. Cosnim does not require any external server or service, database or other support services to function, even in hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
Relays and Gateways
Serverless means Cosnim does not need any server to run and operate, but that doesn’t mean it can’t use any. You can use, for example, Cosnim relays and gateways to better manage complex environments or to boost performance in multi-user/multi-tenant environments if you want, but these are optional.
