Introduction
Cosnim is a single software package installed directly on the servers, workstations, virtual machines and cloud computing instances that need its services. The same software package is used for all applications, whether Cosnim is used for backups, vaulting, live storage, or to operate relays and gateways.
In most installations, Cosnim will access storage directly without any external server or applications.
In large and corporate environments, optional Cosnim relays and gateways may also be operated to accelerate some processing or expose enterprise storage as a private cloud service, but even in this scenario Cosnim is installed the same way, as a single unified software package.
Summary
To run Cosnim, all you need is:
The software package installed
A license key
A configuration file or files
A keychain
As long as you have the above four components and Cosnim has access to the physical storage, such as cloud storage and local disks, you can run Cosnim on any supported platform in any location, worldwide.
Everything about your data is stored in capsules. This includes your file contents, names, metadata, security and control information, and internal management databases such as deduplication hashes. Capsules are fully encrypted and stored directly in the desired storage, such as cloud, enterprise and local storage. You don’t need to go through servers to access your data, and none of your data is maintained outside of capsules.
Your First Installation
To get quickly up and running with Cosnim for the first time, follow the Software Installation procedure below and the subsequent Quick Start guide. This will set up a Cosnim continuum using local storage, the easiest way to get up and running the first time.
Once you familiarized yourself with Cosnim’s essential operation, you are ready to expand. You may want to, for example:
Use cloud storage
Add local caching for performance
Set up disaster recovery replication
Activate digital signature cascades
Add relays to accelerate sharing operations
Add gateways to leverage private cloud
This guide explains how to generally install and configure Cosnim for various purposes. Refer to the Configuration Reference and Command Reference guides for a complete description of all the configuration options and commands at your disposal.
